Luvin Spoonfuls: Frozen Yogurt Shop to Open on Saturday

The self-serve frozen yogurt shop will celebrate its grand opening in Yorktown on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Ted Russel, a concrete finisher by trade, ate at a self-serve frozen yogurt shop when he visited a friend in Colorado a few years ago. That's when he liked the concept and decided he too would like to open up a similar store.

Russel, a Hopewell Junction resident, and his childhood friend Ray Grande, a Bronx resident, have fulfilled that wish. They're celebrating the grand opening of a new self-serve frozen yogurt place in Yorktown on Saturday, Aug. 11.

The shop will offer 12 different flavors, which will be frequently changed, along with more than 40 dry and fresh fruit toppings. Besides the frozen yogurt, Luvin Spoonfuls will sell Italian ices – in small, medium and large sizes. There will also be water, iced tea and vitamin water for sale.

"We like [Yorktown] and it seems like a tight community," Grande said of why they chose to open up a shop in town.

Russel and Grande said they had been planning to open up the store for about a year, before they knew the other self-serve frozen yogurt was opening, but things got delayed and they couldn't open in June as planned. The businessmen said they think there is plenty of room for two frozen yogurt shops in town and hope they can give customers more options.

"We've learned over the course of our experience how to deal with people," Russel said. "What makes us different is our personality."

The men said Luvin Spoonfuls will offer $1 coupons, a deal of buy 8 get 1 free, and get involved with the community by sponsoring cancer and autism awareness events.

The store's grand opening will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 1 p.m. During the day they'll offer a deal – buy 8 oz of ice cream and get 8 oz free. There will also be a face painter and a balloon artist from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Luvin Spoonfuls is located at 96 Triangle Center in Yorktown Heights. They will be open seven days a week – from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10:30 a.m. to midnight on weekends.
