Community Day and Blood Drive at Parkside Corner Shopping Center

The shopping plaza's first "Community Day" will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Business owners at the Parkside Corner Shopping Center in Yorktown are inviting the community to their first ever "Community Day" on Saturday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saidel and Saidel P.C. is hosting a blood drive with the American Red Cross that day. Appointments can be made by contacting their office at 914-736-6500.

"Blood supplies are drastically low, and apparently they are at their worst during the summer months," said Lori Corradino, a legal assistant at the company. "We thought volunteering to host it, as well as all of us here in the office making blood donations, would be a nice way to try and help make a difference."

As the Saidel and Saidel P.C. started organizing the drive, they tossed around the idea of inviting the community to visit them at Parkside.

"It's made up mostly of small businesses and several of them wanted to participate in their own way," Corradino said.

Residents can also stop into the plaza and check out the stores. The  is hosting a fashion show and offering specials – a sale on hoodies for $2.

"The fashion show should be really fun," Corradino said. "The volunteers will be dressing in outfits available for sale in the store and walking through the plaza and into some of the businesses as a sort of 'runway.'"

Corradino said by making it a fun day for everyone, people might find it more enticing to stop in and donate blood.

The following businesses are located at the plaza:

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
