Yorktown's Kristina Koller to Headline at 12 Grapes

A talented young musician, Kristina Koller of Yorktown, will be performing some popular cover songs on both acoustic guitar and ukulele at the 12 Grapes restaurant in Peekskill on Sunday.

A talented young musician, of Yorktown, will be performing some popular cover songs on both acoustic guitar and ukulele at the in Peekskill on Sunday. 

The 16-year-old senior, who is a triple threat-- she can sing, dance and act -- has been performing since she was 8. She said she loves being on stage and hopes her music touches people of all ages.  

Koller will be joined by Ryder Stuart and Kevin Myers, both of Chappaqua, whom she met at a 4-week pre-college program at Lagond Music School. They will perform four songs together and Koller will perform 15 songs solo with her guitar and ukulele. Although, she will sing covers, she changes up the songs to make them her own.

The young indie pop musician will perform covers of Coldplay, Ingrid Michaelson, Jason Mraz, Circa Survive, Bon Iver, Beatles and others. Her cover of Coldplay's "Yellow" was aired a few times on 107.1 The Peak and she had won "Best New Song of the Week" on Chris Bro's Next show. He had discovered her at one of the First Friday Open Mics hosted by the Justin Veatch Foundation the , her mother, Laura Koller said. 

"I like to be interactive with the audience and have them clap along with me to get them involved," Kristina Koller said. "It brings me great joy."

The best thing that has happened to her, she said, is when during an open mic she was approached by an autistic teen who couldn't speak. He typed on his electronic writing pad that as soon as he heard her voice, he "totally calmed down." Koller said this feedback has transformed her life and she is now contemplating studying music therapy in college.

Recently Koller performed at the new farmer's market at the John Jay Homestead in Katonah, as well as last weekend at 12 Grapes in a "Best of Singers" showcase. This past spring she played the lead role of Little Me in Yorktown High School's production of "Little Me." Koller is scheduled to perform at Hudson's First Musicfest next weekend in Hudson.
