YCP TheaterWorks' Dinner Theater

An event not to be missed—a deluxe buffet followed by Neil Simon’s side-splitting comedy--is coming your way. YCP TheaterWorks will present the hilarious and poignant The Prisoner of Second Avenue along with a sumptuous meal.   This special event will take place at Sinapi’s Ceola Manor, 489 E. Main St., Jefferson Valley, NY 10535 (directly across from Jefferson Valley Lanes).  The buffet will include salad, vegetable, pasta, three entrees, coffee, tea, soda and ice cream.  There will be a cash bar as well.

Dinner and a show dates are October 23, 30 and Nov. 6 at 12:30 pm and October 22, Nov. 23 and 30 at 6:30 pm. Admission for both dinner and show is $35, one price for all.  Reservations must be made by the Wednesday before your show date by calling (914) 528 4145. Cash, check or credit card (MasterCard or Visa) will be accepted.  Opening night attendees will be treated to a champagne toast!

One of Neil Simon’s most popular comedies, The Prisoner of Second Avenue tells the story of advertising executive Mel Edison (Jonathan Nelson) who has just lost his job after many years and now has to cope with being unemployed at middle age. Mel and his steadfast wife Edna (Elise Godfrey) are pitted against an assault by modern Manhattan—heat waves, garbage strikes, noisy neighbors and rampant crime.

Will Mrs. Edison’s ascent into the marketplace balance the ledger or will Mel’s cabin fever drive him to a nervous breakdown?  Will the loving care of his brother Harry (Bruce Apar), his three sisters (Connie Dyckman, Elaine Hartel and Anne Rodgers Pearl) and Edna strengthen his grip on mental stability?  The themes assure the audience of relevance for these times.

Seasoned director Joel Karpoff will tackle Simon’s trademark fast-paced wit and, in this case, bleak view of American life.  Joel has directed for Company Players for 15 years.  In addition, he directed two shows a year for five years of the Heritage Hills Theater Guild.  Among his many directorial successes are California Suite, Fiddler on the Roof, The Odd Couple (Male and female versions) and Love, Sex and the IRS.  Most recently, he directed Social Security and Barefoot in the Park for YCP TheaterWorks.
