Award Winning Photographer from Yorktown to Showcase Her Work on July 11

The award winning photographer will display her work on Wednesday, July 11 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A Yorktown native, who is an award winning photographer, captures the unexpected, focuses on angles or simple details and offers an unusual perspective.

Dona Marie Menton, who lived in Yorktown for more than 20 years and is a  graduate, will showcase her images at an exhibit in Greenwich next week.

Menton, the daughter of , a well known member of the Yorktown community, still has close family ties to the area. She currently lives in East Norwalk, CT, where many of the images for this exhibit were taken.

The photographer has taken top honors and exhibited at many local venues including The Rowayton Art Center, University of Connecticut at Stamford Art Gallery, The Bendheim, The Fairfield Museum, Stamford Center for the Arts and Carriage Barn at Waveny Park.

"My love of photography started early, however, it took years for me to start 'really' taking pictures," Menton said and added people always told her she took great photographs.

As a result, she bought a decent camera, joined a couple of camera clubs and started taking pictures, everywhere, of everything.

Rarely without a camera, and always keeping an eye out for the change in light, unexpected shot, or an angle that makes an unusual photo, she enjoys nosing around Norwalk and elsewhere looking for the unique, off the beaten path or hidden surprises that abound in the small details.

"I found that where I landed, was taking pictures of unique angles, singular leaves, corners and details that we often take for granted," the woman said. "Nothing exceptionally unique, but interesting and as it turned out, people loved the photos. So I keep doing it!"

Her most recent venture has been to boat yards, which she calls a "treasure of texture, color, variety, and creative juxtaposition." All of her upcoming exhibit includes pictures of the waterline of dry docked boats.

"The waterlines all create an abstract color palette," she said. "Most people looking at them think they are paintings."

Menton said she has a series of the waterline that she calls 'boatscapes,' because they all look like landscapes.

"The fun is in sharing what you did and seeing someone enjoying it or spending a few minutes wondering what it would be like to have taken the same shot," Menton said. "The beauty is, we all view the same things every day, and if we all took a photo of the same things, they’d all be different, unique and exciting in their own way."

In addition to photography, Menton enjoys writing about local attractions to entice natives and visitors alike to enjoy what Connecticut provides.

Although always excited to find the extra hour to "go out and shoot," Menton spends her weekly hours as a physician recruiter matching physicians with hospitals and facilities nationwide.

Menton's photographs will be displayed at The First Bank of Greenwich on Wednesday, July 11 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The bank is located at
444 East Putnam Ave, Cos Cob, CT.

"I can’t say that I have a genre or a specific style, I keep expanding on what I see and hope I always will," Menton said. "However, this current exhibit has been so much fun and most rewarding because of all the surprises in all of the photos."

During the event, hors d’oeuvres and wine will be served. RSVP to Frank@GreenwichFirst.com or (203)302-4375.
