Yorktown's Long-Awaited Dog Park Now Open

A ceremony will be held in a couple of weeks.

The off-leash dog park – Sylvan Glen Paw Park in Yorktown – is open.

"After more than 10 years, I am very happy and quite honored to announce that the Yorktown Community Dog Park at Sylvan Glen Park Preserve is now open!
Yorktown Parks and Recreation Commissioner Diana Quest informed me earlier this morning that the Paw Park is opened as of today," David Rocco, chairman of Yorktown Community Dog Park, wrote in an email.

Rocco offered three important tips for using the dog park:

  • Familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations that are posted on the sign which is located at the triple gated entrance area to the Paw Park.
  • Remember you must leash you dog(s) from the time you remove your dog(s) from your vehicle until the time you unleash them in the Paw Park.
  • Please remember to be respectful to the residents who live in this area regarding how fast you travel through these neighborhoods and where you park your cars if the parking lot reaches full capacity.  I would suggest parking along the east side of Grant Ave north of the parking lot if this situation should arise.

"The official grand opening will take place sometime within the next two weeks, weather permitting," he said.

After the town approved the park in September, contractors installed the fence and volunteers removed stumps, roots, branches and rocks.

The Sylvan Glen Park is located at the intersection of Morris Lane and Grant Avenue in Mohegan Lake.
