Yorktown Senior Center Open Tuesday Despite Frigid Weather

Despite the frigid temperatures in the Lower Hudson Valley on Tuesday, the Yorktown Senior Nutrition Center is staying open.

"As long as the roads are clear, we are able to get the vans out, we are open," Mary DeSilva told Patch.

The Nutrition Center, which is located at the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center, can also be used as a warming center, although Yorktown officials have not made any announcements yet.

DeSilva said anyone who wishes to warm up is welcomed into the center.

Yorktown Senior Nutrition Center officials were recently able to deliver 150 emergency meals to homebound seniors with the help of an $800 grant from the Elks Club, DeSilva said. The meals consisted of tuna, crackers, juice and fruits.

The Senior Nutrition Center is located at 1974 Commerce Street in Yorktown Heights. It is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
