Yorktown Honors Veterans, William Lewis for Dedication and Service

The annual Yorktown Veteran's Day Parade was held on Sunday, Nov. 10 in Shrub Oak. The parade stepped off at 2 p.m. from Lakeland High School and continued onto East Main Street. It ended at the John C. Hart Memorial Library with a brief ceremony.

Rick Davin, the guest speaker at the Yorktown Veterans Day Parade, was joined by two of his four sons, Jason and John, both Midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy, along with William Lewis, a former Marine who re-instituted the parade 14 years ago. Lewis is stepping down from running it this year.

Davin, a retired captain in the Marine Corps and Reserves, is also a World Trade Center survivor and a Yorktown Auxiliary Police captain, who has served the town for 28 years. His two other sons, Joe and Jim, are also currently serving on active duty in the Marines.

In honor of his dedication and service to the parade for more than a decade, Nov. 10, 2013 was designated at William Lewis Day by both the Yorktown Town Board and the Westchester County Board of Legislators. He will also be inducted this year into the New York State Veterans Hall of Fame.

Yorktown resident Vincent Licenziato, 93, a World War II veteran, was an honored guest at the Yorktown Veteran's Day Parade.
