Walk and 5K Run For Wishes, Chocolate Expo, Noises Off and Pet First Aid

6th Annual Walk & 5K Run For Wishes

When/Where:   Sunday, November 6 from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at FDR State Park in Yorktown Heights

Why Go:  Run for an excellent cause. Join the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley to help raise money to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions in the Hudson Valley area.

When/Where:  Friday, Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. in Shrub Oak. 

Why Go: Doors slamming, backstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of a hilarious and classically comic play that  students will put on today and Saturday.

Price: All tickets are $8.

Crafts on Stage

When/Where: Saturday, November 5 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday, November 6 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Performing Art Center at SUNY Purchase.

Why Go:  This show of American crafts features unusual one-of-a-kind works, including home accessories, fine leather goods, hand-woven clothing, glass, handcrafted jewelry and other gift items.

Price:  $10 adults, $9 seniors, $15 weekend pass, free ages 11 and under, accompanied by an adult.

 

Last Leaf Hike

When/Where:  Saturday, November 5 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining

Why Go:  Take a hike in the crisp fall air and search for the last falling leaves. Look for the last flowers of fall and the first signs of winter.

Dr. Seuss Party

When/Where:   Saturday, November 5, 11 a.m. at the Briarcliff Manor Library

Why Go:  Bring your 2 - 7 year-olds to listen to a few Dr. Seuss stories, make a Seuss craft, and play a Seuss game or two and a small Seuss snack.

Price:  Free

 

The Chocolate World Expo

When/Where:  Sunday, November 5 from 11a.m.-6 p.m. at the Westchester County Center in White Plains

Why Go:   One word:  chocolate. This expo features 65 vendor booths offering tastings and sales of gourmet chocolates. Lots of gifts for sale—from gelato to bonbons and baked goods; wine, cheese and specialty foods.

Family Clay Workshop

When/Where:  Saturday, November 5, 1 p.m. at Arts Westchester in White Plains

Why Go: Held in conjunction with Arts Westchester’s "Earth" exhibit, Family Clay Workshops will give kids and their families the chance to create their own clay birds to add to the exhibit.

Price:  Free

 

Living at Our Best – Let’s Move! in Peekskill

When/Where:  Saturday, November 5 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Pugsley Park in downtown Peekskill (registration begin at 8:30 a.m. and 1 mile Fun Walk kicks off at 9:30 a.m.)

Why Go:  This event, sponsored by Hudson River HealthCare, is the 5th Annual Living at Our Best, a health and wellness event. The purpose of the walk is two-fold: to get the community moving more on a daily basis and raise awareness of organizations that are making a difference with their efforts to help out with hunger, food security and wellness. After walk, the public is invited to experience a variety of free wellness activities including workshops (Tai Chi, accupressure and food demonstrations) and take advantage of free health screenings for cholesterol, glucose/blood sugar and blood pressure. The activities will be held at the Hudson River HealthCare Center in Peekskill, 1037 Main Street.

My Fair Lady

When/Where:  Through Nov 27 at the Westchester Broadway Theater in Elmsford

Why Go:  Take in dinner and classical musical this weekend. “My Fair Lady,” with book, music and lyrics by Lerner and Loewe, and features famous songs like "On the Street Where You Live," “Wouldn't It Be Loverly? “ I Could Have Danced All Night”and“Get Me to the Church on Time” will be presented at the Westchester Broadway Theater.

Red Cross Pet First Aid and CPR Class

When/Where:  Sunday, November 6, 1 p.m. at Best Friends Pet Care in White Plains

Why Go:  This is a Red Cross pet first aid and CPR class where you will learn how to recognize an emergency, learn when & where to call for help, how to approach a sick or injured animal and many more first aid techniques for your pet.
