Vishnu Patel Wins Patch Person of the Year

Yorktown Councilman Vishnu Patel was selected through an unscientific poll on Yorktown-Somers Patch.

The voting has closed in the Yorktown-Somers Person of the Year poll and the majority have selected Yorktown Councilman Vishnu Patel as the 2012 person of the year.

Patel is a retired IBM scientist who actively supports high school Science Research projects. He is often a guest teacher at science classes throughout the Yorktown and Lakeland schools.

He also makes multiple donations around town including computer equipment to the schools and the Senior Center computer facility. Patel also attends student award ceremonies and Boy Scout Eagle ceremonies and organizes Boy Scouts to do public service projects.

Patel, who was nominated along with Beatrice 'Tricy' Cushner, was selected through an unscientific poll on Yorktown-Somers Patch.

"Live your life as such that no one has to lie at your funeral," Patel said. "That is my motto."

The man said volunteering is what makes Yorktown great and commended Cushner for being involved with various organizations within the community.

Congratulations to those who were nominated and thank you to the locals who voted.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
