War Veteran's Jeep Now Belongs to a Yorktown History Buff

Paul Martin III purchased the 1942 Ford JPW Jeep a couple of years ago from World War II veteran from Tennessee.

Paul Martin III is a self-proclaimed history buff who purchased a 1942 Ford JPW Jeep a couple of years ago from a World War II veteran, who used the Jeep on his farm in Tennessee.

"It's a piece of living history," Martin III said. "It's my effort to preserve it and show the young people and let them see what their grandfathers or fathers rode to war."

He said he was restoring the Jeep by fixing the engine, among other things, so it could be driven. Martin III, who is the Yorktown Historical Society's president, now takes the vehicle to war re-enactments, parades and ceremonies.

The Jeep, adorned with the American flag, was part of on Friday. Martin III will also drive the vehicle during Sunday's annual Veteran's Day parade in Shrub Oak.

His own father Paul Martin, Jr. and father-in-law Michael Fevola are both war veterans. Martin Jr., who is now 81 years old, was in the military police and for some period of time was assigned at West Point. His father-in-law, now 91 years old, was stationed in China and was fighting against the Japanese with the Army Air Force in WWII.

"A lot of what I do is to honor my father and father-in-law," Martin III said. "Veteran's Day is a way for the citizens of our country to honor, remember and respect the veterans, who are really citizen soldiers, who answered the call of duty."
