Two Auditions for First ASK Talent Show in Yorktown

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at Yorktown High School and Thursday, April 12 at Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School.

The Alliance for Safe Kids, a Yorktown-based non-profit organization, will be hosting its first talent show at the end of the month and organizers have announced two dates for auditions, to be held next week. 

The separate schools in town already host talent and variety shows throughout the year, but Lisa Tomeny, executive director for ASK, said they wanted to include everyone in a show for the entire town. 

ASK was founded in 2002 and is dedicated to raising awareness of and promoting the prevention of all destructive behaviors among the youth. ASK members work with different organizations and leaders in the community to educate and empower children and young adults.

"This is a fun way for us to pursue that strategy," Tomeny said, referring to their mission of providing alternative events to kids in town. 

Auditions for the talent show will be held on Tuesday, April 10 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at and Thursday, April 12 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at .

The talent show is open to kids, kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as adults ages 18 to 25.

"It's really for anything they want to show – gymnastics, singing, dancing, juggling." Tomeny said. "It's giving them a forum to be involved with the community and an opportunity to experience activities that are healthy and fun."

The audition panel will consist of several and school district staff, including Michelle Marchetti (Mildred E. Strang Middle School teacher), Jessie Wallance (Mildred E. Strang Middle School psychologist), Paul Dirito (Mildred E. Strang Middle School teacher), Christopher Cummings (Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School assistant principal), Jodi Weisberger (Lakeland High School student assistance counselor).

Jane Levin, a seventh grader at , is helping plan the event as part of her Bat Mitzvah project.

The talent show will take place on April 28 at the at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids, under 12. Proceeds will benefit the Alliance for Safe Kids. To purchase your tickets in advance, visit ASK4Talent.eventbrite.com.
