Toys for Tots Fundraiser; Meet the Authors Night; Breakfast with Santa and Gift Collection

Here are five things you need to know today, Dec. 12.

1. Yorktown Girl Scouts Offer Babysitting while Parents Shop

Do you wan to shop without the children this Friday, Dec. 14? Girl Scouts will be offering babysitting at the Sparkle Lake Building in Yorktown from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The girls are Red Cross certified babysitters (and two adults will also be present). There will be games and entertainment for a variety of ages.

2. Meet the Author’s Night

Join the John C. Hart Memorial Library to meet local authors, Susan Berliner, Gary Chattman, Ratna Dalal, Jim DeAcutis, Louise T. Gantress, Rose Marie Panio and Olive Peart on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. Each will talk briefly about their books, mingle and enjoy refreshments. Books will be available for sale and signing. No registration necessary.

3. Breakfast with Santa and Gift Collection

The Somers Community Center will be collecting gift cards/new unwrapped toys for the 600 children in Westchester County foster care at their Breakfast with Santa on Sunday, Dec. 16.

4. Toys for Tots Fundraiser at Augie's

Augie's Prime Cut in Mohegan Lake is holding its annual Toys for Tots fundraiser on Wednesday, Dec. 12 from 6 p.m. to closing. Guest bartenders are Karen Russo (owner Prima Donna Hair Salon) and Antoinette De Bellis (owner De Bellios Insurance Agency).. All donations will go to Toys for Tots. All donations can be dropped off anytime during hours of operation.

5. Identity Theft Protection for You and Your Business

The Yorktown Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the seminar, to be held on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 8:30 am at the Yorktown Diner on Downing Drive in Yorktown Heights. Laura Forbes, senior assistant DA for the Westchester County High Technology Crimes Unit will be the guest speaker. Refreshments will be served. The cost is $15 for non-members; free for members.
