Somers Town Hall Parking Lot to Undergo Construction Beginning June 3

The Somers Town Hall parking lot will be under construction and not available for parking beginning June 3.

Town officials said the project is expected to last four weeks and access to the Elephant Hotel will be via the front door only; while access to the Town House Annex will remain through either door.

Deliveries of large bulk items, such as crystal rock, the soda machine and paper products have been made for an adequate supply to last for the month of June and will resume normal deliveries beginning July 1, Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy said in a statement.

"Parking for employees and persons with town business has been arranged across the street at Bailey Court up around the back," she wrote. "We do not have permission to park in the front and I ask that you respect the businesses there and not take up any of those spaces; in addition parking next door at the Deli is also not permitted."

A Somers Police patrol car will be at the crosswalk from 8:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. and then again at 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. for employee assistance, Murphy said.

Several of the town's public meetings will be held at different locations. (See the list below).

Murphy said signs will be places at the front of the parking lot to let people know parking will be prohibited and that handicap parking is also not available.

"Residents needing handicap access should call for an appointment and staff will meet them at Van Tassell for town business," she wrote." Your patience and cooperation will be greatly appreciated. The end result will be a great new porous pavement parking lot."
