'Scared by the Sound' Moves from Playland to Route 202 in Cortlandt

By Liz Giegerich:

Even though Playland has been transforming into one of the scariest places on the Long Island Sound every October for the last 13 years, that's not the case this year.

It will not be the source of any manufactured fear because the area where Scared by the Sound is usually built in Rye is now being used as a construction site for the Ice Casino roof replacement project

Instead, the 20,000 square-foot haunted house will be held in the space formerly known as The Training Zone at 2305 Crompond Road (Route 202) in Cortlandt.

Dozens of professional actors, authentic props and elaborate stage make up and costumes all create the attractions features: Crypt Walk, The Haunted Wine Cellar, Creepy Morgue, Tunnels of Doom, an all new Zombie Zone and more.

The haunted house is open weekends in October starting Oct. 4 and on Nov. 1 and 2. Parking may be limited so go early. Tickets are $15.50.

It takes about 15-18 minutes to walk through, and the lines are longer closer to Halloween. On Halloween weekend you can expect to stand in line for close to three hours, so go soon.
