Report: Yorktown's Guiding Eyes for the Blind Could Lose $525K Endowment

A "ministerial error" in legal papers could cost Yorktown-based guide dog charity Guiding Eyes for the Blind $525,000, according to an article in the Journal News.

In a lawsuit, filed recently, the organization has asked the state Supreme Court to "intervene in a dispute with The Ethel S. Abbott Charitable Foundation over an endowment, a cash gift intended to generate interest income for the charity," Ernie Garcia wrote in the Journal News article.

According to the lawsuit, Guiding Eyes sent an erroneous financial report last year to the Lincoln, Neb.-based Abbott foundation, the Journal News reported. As a result, the Abbott foundation accused Guiding Eyes of violating their agreement and requested the Yorktown charity return the $525,000 endowment.

Guiding Eyes for the Blind is asking the court rule it can keep the money and to declare that there was no violation to the agreement, the paper reported.
