Release the Hounds!

SPCA of Westchester hosts Walkathon and Pet Fair at FDR State Park.

Hundreds of pets brought their owners to in Yorktown Saturday for the 's Walkathon and Pet Fair. The event kicked of with a 2.5 mile walk through the park as dogs on leashes led their owners along the roadway.

"I love it—it's really fun," said Avery Westervelt of Cortlandt Manor, who was walking with her friend Karolina Seweryn of Yorktown and her dog Bella.

"This is awesome! They should do it more than once a year," said Peter Rivera of Mount Kisco, who walked in a group that included Peter McIntyre of Yorktown and their dogs.

Doreen Jiminez of Ossining walked with her tiny dogs Melody and Lola and stated the day was an adventure for her pets.

"They aren't ever around other dogs but they love it," she said.

The event also featured games, vendors and refreshments, and served as a fundraiser for the Briarcliff Manor-based "no-kill" shelter.
