Photo Gallery: Yorktown Salutes for Memorial Day

Yorktown's annual Memorial Day parade brought together young and old to remember those who fought for our great nation.

Yorktown’s Memorial Day Parade went off without a hitch as hundreds of patriots, veterans and town officials congregated in town to commemorate U.S. service members who died fighting for our country.

The ceremony began at Yorktown Town Hall before the parade led followers down to the gazebo behind the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center. Much like the heat, spirits were high as Gerald Knapp and Susan Siegel addressed the people before the parade began.

Shots were fired in remembrance of soldiers who died fighting in the country's wars and military conflicts. Father Bisignano from St. Patrick’s Church said a few words as wreaths were presented for fallen soldiers.

As veterans marched down Commerce Street, adults saluted while kids waved American flags, proudly flaunting their patronage. Tears were shed by those who remembered loved ones lost, but Monday's event was not about sorrow but rather a celebration for those who serve the country.
