Make Earrings in Yorktown For Battered Women's Shelters

Yorktown's Joan Lloyd loves creating jewelry, but she has combined her passion to make a difference in the lives of other women.

For the last three and a half years, she has been creating earrings she donates to battered women's shelters in Westchester.

Lloyd, a volunteer EMT for the Yorktown and Lake Mohegan volunteer ambulance corps, also holds jewelry-making workshops at various libraries in the area.

On Thursday, July 11, she will be at the John C. Hart Memorial Library in Shrub Oak at 6 p.m.

Her one rule is -- if you make a pair of earrings for yourself, you must create a second one she could donate to a woman seeking shelter from domestic abuse.
