Local Westchester Entrepreneur to Bring Foamfest to Yorktown

Foamfest will be held at the Yorktown Fireman's Fields starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.

This Saturday, the Fireman's Fields behind the Yorktown Heights Fire Department will be transformed into an "outdoor electronic foam dance party," providing entertainment to local teens in a drug and alcohol-free environment.

Westchester resident Duncan Abdelnour, 19, came up with the idea to provide a safe place for teens to have a good time on a Saturday night. He also wanted to make this one last summer event for those students who will going back to college next week.

"Nothing like this has ever happened before, as far as an outdoor event for teenagers," Abdelnour said of what he calls the first Foamfest and biggest outdoor event in the area.

Foam cannons will be blasting all night during what is likely to resemble a giant bubble bath. The event will include performances by the Disco FriesJamie Drastik and Donnie Klang.

The incoming University of Tampa sophomore, majoring in entrepreneurship, said he has been hosting similar events since his senior year at Somers High School. He runs a series of popular club events for teenagers called Westchester Teen Nights. Abdelnour said they are dedicated to providing alcohol and drug-free events for Westchester teens.

Abdelnour and Cole Partenza, who is involved with the promotional and marketing aspect of the event, approached the Yorktown Heights Fire Department in June to rent out the space behind the fire station.

"The Engine Company determined that this has the possibility to be a great event for young adults to come and enjoy themselves in a safe place, while still having the freedom of being out at a concert," fireman Alex Vergo said.

A portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to Alliance for Safe Kids, as recommended by the fire department. Vergo said the fire department has no finances vested into the event as it is being strictly run by Abdelnour's own DJ entertainment company, Westchester DJ's.

Abdelnour said they're expecting about 1,000 people to attend the event, which has been mainly advertised through social networking on Facebook

The event will be held at the Yorktown Fireman’s Fields starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.

Tickets are $15 in advance and can be purchased on this website. Admission at the door will be $20.
