Hilltop Hanover Farm to Host Benefit Dinner With Local Chefs

Chef Matt Hutchins, Birdsall House of Peekskill, Lisa Moir, The Plue Pig of Croton-on-Hudson and Sharion Waithe, Sharion's D'Lish Dish of Yorktown will prepare seasonal dishes using local produce on May 14.

Hilltop Hanover Farm will host a benefit dinner in conjunction with a few local chefs, while promoting fresh local food.

"We are excited to promote the shared connection between the farmers of the Hudson Valley, seasonal cooking and wonderful food by hosting the first Dinner at ," Friends of Hilltop Hanover Farm President Helen Brady said. "We are partnering with, and featuring extraordinary local chefs, farms, and artisans.”

Chef Matt Hutchins,  Peekskill, Lisa Moir, The Plue Pig of Croton-on-Hudson and Sharion Waithe,  Yorktown will prepare seasonal dishes using local produce.

Waithe will prepare Canapes; Hutchins will create the appetizer and entree and Moir will prepare dessert. The guest speaker for the evening will be Matt Hutchins. He is a native of Tallahassee, Florida, a Culinary Institute of America graduate, and Chef at the Birdsall House, Peekskill.

"He brings a deep southern influence to the table, along with many other styles that have influenced him over the years," Brady said. "In particular Matt [Hutchins] focuses on ethical practices, and loves to explore the world of charcuterie, seasonal ingredients, andsimple, flavorful food.”

The benefit dinner for the Friends of Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center will be held on May 14. The cost is $125 per person ($80 tax deductible), and space is limited.

Supporters include: Wild Hive Cafe, Clinton Corners; Warwick Valley Winery & Distillary, Warwick; Front Yard Coop, Somers; The Hudson Milk Company, Shrub Oak, Cabbage Hill Farm, Mount Kisco, Hemlock Hill Farm, Cortlandt Manor, Fishkill Farms, Hopewell Junction.

"This event is important in helping to foster and establish new relationships between local farmers and local chefs," Hilltop Hanover Farm, farm manager, Lucille Munz said. "Highlighting local chefs and local farms is also a way to help keep our dollars in our local economy while at the same time helping to protect and preserve our agricultural landsand heritage."

Hilltop Hanover Farm is a 187-acre Westchester County owned crop farm and environmental center, located in Yorktown Heights, NY. The evening is part of the Friends comprehensive mission to support the farm and to focus attention on farming, food, health and environmental education, while working collaboratively with Westchester County.

Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center cultivates organic food for the community, demonstrates sustainable living, and provides educational resources on agriculture and the environment.
