Cub Scouts Complete "Where I Live Achievement" With Visit to YPD

Seven members of the Pack 38 BSA Tiger Cubs, accompanied by parents and siblings visit the police department and got to sit in a police car and see handcuffs.

For Robert Gussak, who wore an orange Yorktown Police coat, then a yellow police vest and had a cap on, the best part of his visit to the was sitting in a police car.

The first grader, along with six other Tiger Cub Scouts from Pack 38 Boy Scouts of America, completed their "Where I Live Achievement." Each achievement, according to Jay Gussak has a number of requirements, a family activity at home, a den activity, and a "Go See It," which was their visit to the police department.

After the kids completed all five achievements they earn their Tiger Badge.

The cub scouts got to sit in Yorktown police Det. Sean Lewis' police car Thursday afternoon and learn about what police officers hold in their car trunks and why-- a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, cones and a door unlocking tool. They were also asked if they knew what number to dial in case of an emergency and the kids correctly responded 911.

The young Yorktowners then went to Det. Lewis' office where he gave them a "goodie" bag, which included a badge, a coloring Book, stickers, and a whistle/light. The parents got a PBA sticker and a Protect your Child kit. During their visit, the boys got to ask questions and see Det. Lewis' handcuffs.
