Black Bear Spotted in Mohegan Lake

A Yorktown resident reported to police today that a black bear was seen in the area of Strawberry Road.

A resident reported spotting a black bear in the Strawberry Road area in Mohegan Lake this afternoon. The report was made at about 12:30 p.m., Yorktown police confirmed tonight. However, when officers checked the area, the bear was gone, police said. 

Bear sightings in the area are not unusual, police said, and this is not the first time it had happened. 

Early Sunday morning, a . The bear was black with a brown muzzle, was standing on its hind legs, appeared to be in good health and was not acting aggressively, according to state troopers.

In Cortlandt, the bear was near the man's garbage cans in the back of the house and after a few minutes it walked into the woods. Troopers investigated and did not find any bear in the woods.
