Bad Air Quality Saturday: Take Care

It's the first heat wave of the season, your body needs to get adjusted—and now the National Weather Service has issued an air quality warning. That means pollutant levels are above normal. It's the ozone. The New York Department of Health says to limit strenuous activity. Call the state's toll-free air-quality hotline is 1-800-535-1345 to stay informed on the situation.

Karen Rogers of Accuweather Channel 6 says: "Code Orange Ozone Action Days have been declared for through Saturday across the region, especially in urban centers. Ground level ozone and other pollutants will be at unsafe levels for those in sensitive groups. This includes seniors, young children and those who suffer from asthma and other respiratory ailments. Air quality tends to be at its worst between the hours of noon and 6 p.m. We can all help by grouping our errands today, using mass transit, not mowing lawns and only filling the car in the early morning or evening."
