Yorktown Teen Center to Host Girls Night Only

The Yorktown Teen Center will be hosting its second annual Girls Only Night at the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center on Friday, Feb. 15. 

The event begins with registration at 5 p.m. in the nutrition room located next to the Yorktown Stage entrance of the building.

A menu of activities is being planned for the girls to choose from:

Earring Making Workshop: Make a pair of earrings for yourself and one that will go to a battered women’s shelter.

Stamping Workshop: learn the techniques for creating a stamping project, including a postcard to be sent to China, Japan, Haiti or Afghanistan. Postcards will be given to Kids to Kids International (www.ktki.org) for their postcard project program.

Candy Making Workshop: A favorite from last year will be back! Learn to make sweet treats of molded chocolates and chocolate covered treats.

Cup Cake Decorating: Dress up a “naked cupcake,” donated by the Yorktown A&P, before its eaten!

Zumba: Led by Eileen Torres this exercise favorite is also open to mothers if space is available.

Warrior Workout: Led by Killeen Good, this 30 minute workout starts slow and increases intensity providing a cardio workout for the warrior within.

Line Dancing Workshop: Learn the moves of country dancing and other line dances (electric and cha cha slide)

Hair Care and Skin Care Workshop: professionals from Salon D in Mt. Kisco will offer beauty tips. Also girls will be able to have a colored feather hair extension clipped to their hair.

Girls can choose to use the lounge and game room for just hanging out.

The event hours are 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and is open to young women in grades 6 to 12th. There is a $10 requested donation which includes snacks, pizza and beverages.  Tickets available at girlsnight.eventbrite.com or by calling 914-302-2123.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
