The Yorktown Leo's group gathered 58 people, including students, volunteers and parents and headed down to Staten Island to help hurricane victims on Saturday, Nov. 10.
Hurricane Sandy left many people without homes, electricity and without hope. The Leo's helped at a Condo Complex in which numerous apartments were full of water and all belongings were ruined.
As soon as the Leo's arrived they got to work and helped carry loads of trash, water logged clothes and furniture from the buildings and apartments. The trash and such filled an entire two blocks. In some apartments Leo's helped demolish walls and ceilings so that they later could be rebuild. The Leo's spent time conversing and bringing positive spirits to the victims and gave some a sense of hope.
They also brought donations of cleaning supplies, food, and clothing as well. Through the hours they spent they served hot soup and hot chocolate to all the victims and volunteers.
It was a day well spent and so much was accomplished thanks to the help of the Leo's.
