Yorktown to Collect Halloween Treats for the Troops

Ever wonder what to do with all that extra candy?

Girl Scout troop 1591 will be collecting extra Halloween Candy (individual pieces or full bags) to send to our deployed troops overseas. We will be working with a group called Operation Gratitude to coordinate this effort.

Candy will be collected at the St. Patrick’s Craft Fair, St. Patrick's School, corner of Moseman Road and Hanover Road in Yorktown Heights on Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All are invited to include a note or picture for a U.S. Servicemember with their donation. Help us make a difference in their lives...one piece at a time.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supply…Read More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
