The New York Rock Academy announces a day camp during the summer, offering six-week long sessions culminating in a live rock concert for friends and family at the end of each week.

The program starts on July 9 and runs through August 17 at 216 Central Avenue in White Plains.

The Academy, run by Janet Angier, Director of Music in Chappaqua, offers a complete year-round Rock and Roll program suitable for all students from the complete beginner to the extremely talented artist who is ready to get into the recording studio.

Besides the summer program, there are three 10- to 12-week sessions during the school year that each culminate with a live Rock concert in a New York City Rock Club.

Interested students can join as an already formed band or as an individual to be placed within a custom-tailored Rock Bank taking into consideration musical taste, experience, age and instrumentation.

“We keep bands limited in size so that each individual gets a chance to sing on stage," Angier said. "This is a real life rock experience for the aspiring rock star."

According to Angier, the greatest strength of the Academy is its faculty comprised of top New York City rock musicians who as excellent teachers are committed to the growth and development of each and every student.

“Our instructors’ curriculum is custom-tailored to the needs of the students, facilitating a highly functioning rock band in the classroom and in performances,” says Angier. “Our mission is to have everyone who is enrolled confidently play what they love so they love what they play, and the audience will too!

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
