Michael Lipowski, owner of Pure Physique in Shrub Oak, fitness author and recipient of Westchester's Rising Stars Under 40 award launches a new youth fitness program.

On Monday, Nov. 14, 2011 the pure physique junior program will be officially launched.

"Research and large-scale youth fitness tests show that the physical strength development of today's youth is very poor and we need to reverse this trend," Lipowski said.

Unlike other youth fitness programs that center only on endurance activities, pure physique junior specifically addresses the strength and development needs of adolescents. During pure physique junior classes, junior trainees perform various strength training exercises using weights, resistance bands, body weight, medicine balls and more. Heavy emphasis is placed on proper form, safety, effort, team work, and most of all...fun!

Benefits of strength training for adolescents include:

  • improved muscular strength, development, and endurance
  • helps maintain a healthy body weight and fat to muscle ratio
  • building stronger bones and protects joints
  • promoting a healthy blood pressure
  • improved sports performance
  • establishing positive exercise habits for a lifetime
  • increased confidence and self-awareness
  • empowers them to succeed

"The impact this program will have on the self-esteem of those kids participating in the program is immeasurable," Lipowski said.

What a great opportunity for parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to invite their young family members to participate in a fitness program that sets the foundation for a healthy life.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
