Lakeland Field Hockey Wins NYS Championship 6-0; Fourth In a Row

Lakeland High School celebrates fourth straight New York Championship title.

In a dominating performance Lakeland won its fourth straight New York State Class, A Field Hockey championship. It was a complete domination by LHS as Pittsford Sutherland had no shots on goal in the first half and just two, both toward the end of the game, in the second half.

The score was 4-0 at the half and Lakeland substituted freely in the last three minutes of the game. Scoring were Dana Bozek, Gab Celetano (2), Gianna Bensaia, and Abby Murdock (2). A late goal by Steph Scala, Saturday night's hero, was disallowed.

Bard, Bensaia and Dana Bozek were named to the All-Tournament team. Lakeland surrendered only one goal in the state playoffs.

The Lakeland High School Field Hockey team won a tense 1-0 win over Maine-Endwell Saturday night in frosty conditions at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. Stephanie Scala scored the winning goal on an assist from Gab Celetano at 25:03 of the second half.

It was a tight defensive battle on both sides as the first half ended in a scoreless tie. Lakeland had six corners and goalie Mairead Hourihan made two stops. Maine-Endwell had five corners and goalie Cassie Banker made three saves.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
