The Kennedy Catholic HS Student Government is reaching out to assist the Staten Island community in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

The parish and high school of St. Joseph's by the Sea in Staten Island sustained much damage and the complete loss of 30 homes. The initial goal is to raise $2,500 to help with restoration efforts.

How to help?

*Monetary donations will be collected during homeroom- any amount will make a difference!

*Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012 is a dress down day. The $5 donation will go towards the Sandy Relief fund. Usual dress down day rules will apply.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Food Pantry is also in great need. They must feed many displaced by the storm as well as help families prepare for the holidays. The goal is to have 1000 items of non-perishable foods collected by the Thanksgiving Mass this Friday.

*Donations of non-perishable foods should be sent in. The collection will continue through Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Our Kennedy Family hopes to make a difference for those who have suffered so much. All donations can be brought to our main school office in Somers. Please give in any way you can. Our efforts will be ongoing this year.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
