Kara Whelan New Director of Conservation Programs at Westchester Land Trust

Westchester Land Trust is pleased to announce that Kara H. Whelan is the new Director of Conservation Programs.

Whelan is leading outreach efforts to secure conservation easements and acquisitions and is leading conservation programming for the general public, conservation groups and municipalities to increase the organization’s constituency and educational impact. She will help lead and be an integral part of the creation of a new communications platform that will support WLT’s fundraising, outreach and programming.

Previously, Whelan served as the Director of Membership & Outreach at the Greenwich Land Trust for eight years and oversaw fundraising, communications and community outreach programs. Whelan has worked in conservation outreach for a number of organizations including the United States Environmental Protection Agency, City Parks Foundation, and the Trustees of Reservations.

Her research on Working Forest Conservation Easements was featured in the Land Trust Alliance’s journal, The Exchange. Whelan has a MS in Natural Resource Policy from the University of Michigan and a BS in Environmental Geoscience and Education from Boston College.

Whelan lives in South Salem with her husband and two children.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
