Yorktown Lights 8th Candle on Menorah; Train Engineer 'Consciously Asleep'

1) Bring the family to celebrate the last night of Chanukah as First Hebrew lights the 8th candle on the menorah in the Jefferson Valley Mall, 650 Lee Blvd. in Yorktown on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. Receive free gelt, candles and travel size menorahs while supplies last. 2) Mark your calendars – join the joy of the musicians and singers of Beit Tefila Yisraeli right here in Westchester. They will perform Thursday night, December 5 at 7 p.m. at Hebrew Congregation of Somers, in the Shenorock section of town. More details here.  

3) As of Thursday, Dec. 5 and for the duration of the new Tappan Zee Bridge build, drivers going from Tarrytown to Rockland will have to bypass the Route 9 entrance ramp to the Thruway. More details here.

4) Various news outlets are reporting Tuesday morning that Metro-North engineer William Rockefeller, 46, of Germantown, may have fallen asleep at the wheel before his speeding train derailed Sunday killing four.  

5) Wednesday is expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 47, according to the National Weather Service. There is a chance of showers, mainly after 9 p.m. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
