Lakeland's New Playground; Guiding Eyes for the Blind Grant

1) The Grainger Foundation has donated $10,000 to Yorktown's Guiding Eyes for the Blind in support of its mission to enrich the lives of blind and visually impaired men and women by providing them with the freedom to travel safely. Read more here.

2) Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) will join students, faculty and staff at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School in Yorktown to cut the ribbon for their new playground on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Ball had secured a $75,000 bullet aid grant to make the project possible. Check back with Patch for more details.

3) Yorktown town board members will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at Town Hall for their work session. Click here for the agenda.

4) Trailside Cafe is located at 315 Kear Street in Yorktown. The shop's Juice of the Month is the Fiber Boost (apple, lemon, pear, celery, sweet potato). The Smoothie of the Month is Simply Pumpkin (pumpkin, banana, cinnamon, yogurt with allmond milk).

5) Despite the thunderstorm warning on Monday that canceled classes, today is expected to be sunny, with a high near 67, according to the National Weather Service.
