Yorktown Veteran Posthumously Recognized for Service

Late Yorktown resident and war veteran, Robert Perry, is being recognized for his military service by the community.

He was posthumously accepted into Senator Greg Ball's second annual Veteran's Hall of Fame during the Yorktown town board meeting on Tuesday. 

Perry, who passed away in May of 2009, had served in the 7th Cavalry as a technician fifth grade for two years and 10 months. For his service, Perry has received the Silver Star, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and also the Philippines Liberation Ribbon.

After his military service, Perry served in the Yorktown Height Fire Department for more than 60 years. He was also a member of VFW post 8328. 

The Veterans’ Hall of Fame was created by Senator Ball, and designed to honor outstanding veterans from throughout the 40th Senate District. Each veteran, who is honored, will be included on a traveling wall that will tour local municipalities throughout the 40th district.

"I am honored to accept Yorktown’s nomination of their Mr. Perry," Ball said in a statement. "He chose a path of courage, honor, integrity and bravery; a path that helped shape America, as we know it, protecting our way of life and liberty. America is not a great country because of its politicians, it’s a great country because of its veterans like Mr. Perry."
